Security and Privacy

Last updated: 1 January 2012

We take the security and privacy of our users very seriously and we recognise that it is important to safeguard the information about our users. Any personal data collected through this website will be treated as confidential in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Where we provide links to other websites, Plantedd is not responsible for how these third parties treat your personal information. Please consider the privacy policy of these other websites carefully before submitting any personal information.

Under the Data Protection Act, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. Our website uses high-level Extended Validation SSL encryption technology to safeguard your data. Exended Validation is a security authentication going beyond the level usually shown by a closed-padlock icon and ‘https’ in the address bar, so as well as the standard level of protection which allows information to be sent and received securely by encryption, the Plantedd website has Extended Validation, which means that the owner has been validated by an authentication authority such as VeriSign. You can tell whether a page is secured with Extended Validation because the address bar turns green when sensitive information is being transferred.

We collect, store and use two kinds of information: (1) your personal details, when you choose to register with us in order to purchase or sell plants or when you subscribe to our email newsletter; and (2) site usage information, such as the pages of our website that you viewed, the search terms that you entered, your browser type, the length of your visit and the broad geographical area of where your computer is located.

Like a lot of websites, we use cookies to personalise our website for you. A cookie is a text file sent by a server to your web browser and temporarily stored by the browser. The text file is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. This enables the server to identify and track the web browser.

Your browser must be set up to receive cookies in order to shop on our website because we use cookies to keep track of the plants in your shopping basket. If you do not enable cookies, you will not be able to shop on the website but you can still browse.

We use your personal data in order to improve our website and understand our users better.

We may also use your personal data to process your orders and payments and this will include sharing your personal data with the buyer or seller (as the case may be) in the course of transactions. Any personal data that is collected during the purchase process is only used by us and such other reputable companies as are necessary to provide services such as payment processing.

Where you have specifically agreed by subscription, we may send you our email newsletter to inform you about things which we think could be of interest. You can cancel your subscription at any time by following the relevant link in the newsletters.

We may collate information about our website such as the website traffic, sales and other commercial information which we may share with third parties, but this information is strictly anonymous and does not include anything which may identify you personally.

We will not pass your personal data on to any third parties for marketing purposes. However, we may share personal information of any of our users if we are obliged to do so by the police or any other regulatory or government authority investigating suspected illegal activities.

We may update this security and privacy policy from time to time by posting a new version on the website. You should check this page occasionally to make sure that you are happy with any changes.

If you have any questions about this security and privacy policy, please contact us by email.
